DARE MRG Leader
Demetris Antoniades, Ph.D. (male) leads the DARE MRG at RISE. Demetris holds a BSc (2005), MSc (2007) and PhD (2011) in Computer Science from the University of Crete, in the areas of Parallel and Distributed Systems and Information Systems. His PhD studies, focused on File and Information Sharing Services in Web 2.0, where funded from the Hrakleitos II PhD Research Scholarship fund. He interned with Telefonica I+D in the academic year of 2010-2011 and he was a research assistant with FORTH from 2004 to 2011. He worked as PostDoctoral Fellow with the Georgia Institute of Technology (2012-2014) and the University of Cyprus (2014-2015). He also worked as a Scientific Coordinator at the Cyprus Institute (2016), where he was responsible for project management and research proposal preparation. Mixing the academic with the corporate sector, Demetris joined CyRIC in December 2016 as a Senior Software Developer. In January 2019 he was promoted to Head of R&D for the Software Division.
Demetris serves as a Visiting Professor to several educational institutions in Cyprus. His research and technology interests have been pursued over the last 15 years as a researcher, software developer and the technical project manager on several European and research projects, the outcomes of which were delivered with excellent results and high evaluation. He also acted as a team leader in scientific projects, coordinating the team efforts development and analysis, communicating the results through reports, as well as scientific writings. He has participated in training sessions and boot-camps both technical (Azure, AWS, Cloud and Web Technologies, Cloud Security) and business orientated (business model generation, networking, branding, product development). Apart from his research career path, Dr. Antoniades has also pursued opportunities to transfer his knowledge to the real world by taking training for Business Model Generation and participating in the ClimateLaunchpad 2015 Entrepreneurship completion, where he was a Cyprus finalist. These efforts resulted in founding his own company, named Pivot Logic, where he is currently a co-director.
